Newfoundland Sikh Society, located at 680 Logy Bay Rd, St. John's, NL, is a vibrant center for worship and community engagement. Established in 2005, it was the first Gurdwara in Newfoundland, stemming from the initiative of three families who began practicing their faith in their homes over thirty years prior, upholding the Sikh custom of "open doors." The Gurdwara offers spiritual guidance and is committed to serving the wider community through food distribution and volunteer work. Services include worship on Fridays (6 PM - 9 PM) and Saturdays and Sundays (10 AM - 1 PM). Langar, a communal kitchen service, is currently offered on Sundays with plans for expansion. The society actively participates in community service initiatives, including local kitchens and Habitat for Humanity, inviting individuals to contribute through volunteering. A unique feature is the availability of live Gurubani from the Golden Temple, Amritsar, including daily Mukhwak and Katha, providing a spiritual connection for visitors. History
The Sikh community in St. John’s began with three families over thirty years ago. Without a traditional Gurdwara, the families practiced in their homes and warmly welcomed guests following the ‘open doors’ custom of Sikhism. In 2005, the first Gurdwara in Newfoundland was established at 680 Logy Bay Road.
