About Dashmesh Culture Centre
Dashmesh Culture Centre, established in 1987, is a prominent Sikh community hub in Calgary, Alberta. Founded with a vision to create a gathering space aligned with Sikh principles, it serves a large membership and the broader Sikh population. The center's history is rooted in community collaboration, with support from the City of Calgary and the Alberta government. Dashmesh Culture Centre offers a range of religious services including Akhand Paath Sahib, prayer ceremonies, Anand Karaj (wedding services), and Antim Ardaas (funeral prayers). It also provides vital community support services such as a food bank, hot meals served daily from 5 am to 10 pm, and a community kitchen. Furthermore, it manages a community garden for fresh produce. A significant aspect of the center's community role is its commitment to food security, exemplified by its food bank and the "No Hungry Tummy" initiative providing hot meals on the go. Educational endeavors include classes for Sikhism, language, kirtan, and life skills, as well as expanding the Khalsa School. Unique features include its extensive daily schedule of religious activities, from early morning prayers and Kirtan to evening Katha and Rehraas Sahib. The center also hosts significant cultural events like the annual Nagar Kirtan, a procession celebrating Vaisakhi and the birth of the Khalsa, which educates participants on Sikh history and teachings. The center is actively engaged in expansion projects, including a new Gurdwara site and athletic grounds for the Khalsa School.

History
The Dashmesh Culture Centre was built in 1987 with the help of community members, the City of Calgary, and the Alberta government at the time. Since then, we have been guided by the vision from the Sikh community in the early 80’s to provide a cultural center for the community to gather and build a better future for new generations. The DCC has grown to a membership of 15,000 plus, serving a community of 100,000 strong. From the vision of the community in the early 80’s to current times, we have flourished and provided a beautiful centre for the Sikh community to gather and celebrate all of our religious events.

Nagar Kirtan
The Nagar Kirtan is a procession led by the Panj Pyare (Beloved Ones) who escort Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji through the Nagar (town) reciting Kirtan (devotional hymns). The Sangat (congregation) follows in the steps of the Guru, as a reminder that we also spiritually follow in the steps and teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the ultimate spiritual authority for the Sikhs.
