About Gurudwara Sahib
Dashmesh Culture Centre, established in 1987, serves as a vital hub for the Sikh community in Calgary, Alberta. Founded with a vision to provide a gathering space and foster a better future for new generations, the Centre has grown significantly, now supporting a community of 100,000 members. Its mission is to uphold the core principles of Sikhism by offering help and services to those in need, maintaining an open and inclusive environment, and providing educational opportunities. The Centre offers a range of religious services, including Akhand Paath Sahib, prayer ceremonies, Anand Karaj (wedding services), Antim Ardaas (funeral prayers), and Sukhmani Sahib prayer. Beyond spiritual support, Dashmesh Culture Centre is deeply involved in community welfare. It operates a Food Bank and provides free hot meals daily from 5 AM to 10 PM, alongside a Community Kitchen. Their commitment to food security is further demonstrated through their "No Hungry Tummy" initiative, offering hot meals on the go. A unique feature of Dashmesh Culture Centre is its extensive community involvement, including projects like Woman's Transitional Housing, a Community Garden, and expansions for the Gurdwara Sahib and Khalsa School. They also host significant cultural events, such as the annual Nagar Kirtan procession, which celebrates the birth of the Khalsa and commemorates the historical journey of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and the Panj Pyare. The daily schedule includes extensive Kirtan, Katha, and prayer sessions, reflecting a vibrant spiritual life.

History
The Dashmesh Culture Centre was built in 1987 with the help of community members, the City of Calgary, and the Alberta government at the time. Since then, we have been guided by the vision from the Sikh community in the early 80’s to provide a cultural center for the community to gather and build a better future for new generations. Through the years, the DCC has grown to a membership of 15,000 plus, serving a community of 100,000 strong. From the vision of the community in the early 80’s to current times, we have flourished and provided a beautiful centre for the Sikh community to gather and celebrate all of our religious events.

Community Updates
Nagar Kirtan
The Nagar Kirtan is a procession led by the Panj Pyare (Beloved Ones) who escort Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji through the Nagar (town) reciting Kirtan (devotional hymns). The Sangat (congregation) follows in the steps of the Guru, as a reminder that we also spiritually follow in the steps and teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the ultimate spiritual authority for the Sikhs. Join us to Celebrate Vaisakhi – the Birth of the Khalsa.
