History
The first Gurdwara (Sikh Temple) in the community of Vernon was registered in October of 1979 after purchase of a previous church building on 27th street. Over the following years the Sikh community in Vernon increased in numberand quickly outgrew the original Gurdwara site. The community thus bought a plot of land on 3800 Commonage Crescent and completed construction on a new Gurdwara in 1987 through donations from its members and support of the neighbouring community. The community next purchased the acreage surrounding the Gurdwara for future development purposes. This now expanded Gurdwara site continues to serve the Sikh community of Vernon until present day.
