The Sikh Foundation San Diego, established in 1998, is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the religious, social, cultural, educational, and spiritual needs of the Sikh community in greater San Diego. Located in Poway, the Gurdwara offers weekly Diwans (services) every Sunday from 11:15 am to 12:45 pm and Wednesdays from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. These services feature Kirtan (singing of verses from the Guru Granth Sahib), Hukamnama (reading of a passage from the scripture), and Ardas (communal prayer). A unique feature of these services is the Langar, a free vegetarian community meal served during each Diwan. The organization also observes anniversaries of Sikh Gurus and historical events. Members of all faiths are warmly invited to attend services. In addition to religious services, The Sikh Foundation San Diego runs a Punjabi School, founded in 2004, which provides education in Punjabi language, Sikh history, and heritage, focusing on character building and critical thinking. Services are primarily conducted in Punjabi, with English translations of the scripture projected for attendees to follow. The Gurdwara acts as a hub for community gatherings, educational programs, and the promotion of Sikh values such as equality, honest living, and sharing.
