About Bridgewater Gurdwara
Garden State Sikh Association (GSSA) in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, has a rich history tracing back to 1973 when local Sikh families sought a place of worship. Incorporated in 1974, the association initially held services in members' homes before purchasing a 13-acre property in 1979. Construction of the first Darbar hall was completed in 1986, followed by a significant expansion in 2008 which added a new Darbar hall, kitchen, Langar hall, restrooms, and additional rooms. The original Darbar hall now serves as the Khalsa School and Library. GSSA offers a comprehensive schedule of services throughout the week, including daily morning Prakash, evening Rehras Sahib, Ardas, and Sohila Sahib. Friday and Sunday evenings feature Rehras Sahib, Kirtan, Katha, and Langar. Saturday daytime services include Sukhmani Sahib Paath, while Sunday daytime services consist of Asa Di Vaar, Katha, Kirtan, Ardas, Hukamnama, and Langar. The Gurudwara plays a vital role in the community, fostering Sikh values and principles. Its Khalsa School aims to instill a love for the Sikh religion, its beliefs, values, and customs in young children through the teaching of Punjabi language, Gurmukhi script, Sikh scriptures, history, and Kirtan. SAT classes are also available for high school students. Unique to GSSA is its commitment to live-streaming services on YouTube and Facebook, making them accessible to those unable to attend in person. The Gurudwara also offers event facilities, including wedding bookings. GSSA upholds the Sikh principle of "Sarbhat da bhala" (welfare of all) by encouraging prayers for the well-being of everyone in the world.

History
In 1973, a few New Jersey Sikh families had a desire to have a Gurudwara near their towns, and held a few meetings. In 1974 the GSSA (Garden State Sikh Association) was incorporated as a Sikh Association with its own charter, by-laws and tax exempt status as a religious non-profit organization. The small group started Path and Kirtan in members’ home. In 1979, the present 13 acre Bridgewater property with a small house was purchased. In 1984, construction started to build a Darbar hall. Construction was completed in 1986, and first kirtan in Darbar hall was performed for Vaisakhi celebrations in April 1986. The congregation attendance grew in the next few decades and soon there was a need to expand. In July 2002, GSSA got approval from the township to start construction. In 2008, construction was complete for a new Darbar hall, kitchen, a new Langar hall, restrooms and several rooms. The old Darbar hall was converted to the Khalsa School and Library.
