History

Gurudwara Dashmesh Darbar Sahib began its journey of serving the Sangat with immense devotion and faith during a challenging time when there was no functioning Gurudwara Sahib in Halifax. The existing Gurudwara Sahib had been closed under the guise of renovations, leaving the community yearning for Guru Sahib's Darshan. In response to this need, a handful of dedicated Singhs took the initiative to organize weekly Smagams at the Bedford Legion. With Guru Sahib's grace and the unwavering support of the Sangat, the first Smagam was held on Vaisakhi of 2021, marking the beginning of a spiritual revival in the region. Even during the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sewa continued with unmatched devotion, and not a single Smagam was canceled. The Sewadars carried out their duties with remarkable dedication, ensuring that Guru Sahib's Darshan and Sangat's spiritual connection remained unbroken during these testing times. During this period, the Langar and all other Sewa were lovingly conducted from the home of current Mukh-Sewadaar in Bedford, embodying th e spirit of selfless service and unity. The joy and gratitude of the Sangat knew no bounds as Guru Sahib’s Darshan became accessible once again, infusing the city with divine blessings and renewed energy. These weekly Smagams continued uninterrupted, spreading divine joy and strengthening the bonds of faith within the community, until October 7, 2022, when Waheguru’s infinite grace paved the way for a permanent Gurughar. A devoted Sewadar offered a building to establish the Gurudwara, a testament to the power of collective faith and service. On the auspicious occasion of Diwali in 2024, the Gurudwara Dashmesh Darbar Sahib officially opened its doors to the Sangat at 44 Dashmesh Avenue, Elmsdale, becoming a beacon of spiritual light and a sanctuary for the Sikh community.
