About Sikh Center of Oregon

Sikh Center of Oregon is a Gurudwara serving the Beaverton and Portland area, welcoming all visitors interested in learning about Sikhism. Founded on the principles of Sikhism, which emphasizes remembrance of God, honest work, and sharing with the needy, the center provides a space for congregational worship and learning. The Gurudwara offers regular Sunday services from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, including Kirtan (devotional singing), Ardass, and Hukamnama, followed by Guru ka Langar (community kitchen serving free meals) from 10:30 am onwards. Friday evening services also include Rehras Sahib and Kirtan, concluding with Langar. Visitors are offered an orientation to Sikhism and Gurdwara etiquette, which includes entering with bare feet and a covered head. The center promotes Sikh values such as the Fatherhood of God, equality of all humankind, and the spiritual authority of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture compiled by Guru Arjan Dev and invested as the eternal Guru by Guru Gobind Singh. While the history of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and its arrangement are detailed on their website, the Gurudwara itself focuses on the living practice of these teachings. Community events, such as Vaisakhi celebrations, youth camps, and various "seva" (selfless service) opportunities like garden and kitchen hall maintenance, are regularly held, fostering community involvement and spiritual growth. The center also provides educational resources, including Kirtan classes.
