History
The Sikh National Center, Inc. (SNC) was established on March 12, 2003, in response to the growing Sikh population in the Greater Houston area. Initially, the community was outgrowing its small, aging Gurdwara. A group of visionary members planned for the future, acquiring 33 acres of land in late 1999 for a regional/national community and religious campus. The multi-purpose project, aiming to serve educational, religious, cultural, social, and recreational needs, broke ground on April 19, 2003, with the hoisting of the Nishan Sahib. The master plan includes a Gurudwara, school, priest residences, guest quarters, auditorium, pavilion, workshop, school boarding house, museum, and library. The Pavilion was completed in 2009, and the Sikh National Educational Institute (SNEI) opened in 2014.
Unique Features
The center aims to teach and practice fundamental Sikh virtues, serving as a community hub for worship, fellowship, discourse, and study. It emphasizes serving the needy, sick, oppressed, and hungry, and fostering the full human potential, with a special focus on youth.
