Guru Nanak Sikh Organization of Yukon, also known as Gurudwara Akaljot Sahib, is a registered charity dedicated to serving the wider community in Whitehorse, Yukon. While its roots trace back to Sikh pioneers in the Yukon as early as 1906, the organization officially established the Gurudwara in 2020 to foster spirituality and community connection. Gurudwara Akaljot Sahib offers daily morning (4:30-5:30 am) and evening (6:30-7:30 pm) prayers, alongside Sunday Kirtan (11 am-1 pm) and music lessons. A significant community service is the provision of Langar (community kitchen) every evening at 7:30 pm and on Sundays at 1:00 pm. Beyond spiritual services, the Gurudwara provides essential support such as short-term, cost-free shelter in nine available rooms, personal meditation and spiritual guidance to aid mental well-being, and promotes a drug and alcohol-free lifestyle through youth sporting activities like volleyball and winter sports. The organization also engages in community volunteer activities, including spring clean-ups, and donates to the Whitehorse Food Bank as part of its poverty alleviation efforts. Its unique features include its role as a comprehensive community center, offering a welcoming space for those in need, and its ongoing efforts to expand its capacity and facilities.
