About Gurudwara of Knoxville

Sikh Sangat of East Tennessee, located in Knoxville, TN, was established in 2011 by local Sikh families. This community Gurudwara is supported by the collective efforts of the Sangat. They hold regular gatherings every Sunday from 10 AM to 3 PM, which include the recitation of Gurbani and Shabad-Kirtan. The Gurudwara’s services offer a structured program with Japji Sahib at 10:30 AM, followed by Shabad Kirtan, Anand Sahib, Sukh Asan, and Langar at 1:30 PM. Monthly services include Shabad Kirtan by members or guest Bhai Gurbachan Singh on designated Sundays, and a recital of Sukhmani Sahib on the fourth Sunday. In March 2013, the Gurudwara experienced a significant fire that caused substantial damage to the building. While the event was a loss for the community, the Guru Granth Sahib Ji was thankfully saved. The Sangat has shown resilience and commitment to rebuilding. The Gurudwara also offers Punjabi-Gurmukhi classes, with registration details available via email. Visitors are reminded of the protocol: head covering and shoe removal are required, and smoking or intoxicating materials are prohibited. The Gurudwara promotes Sikh principles such as hard work, sharing, and remembering God.

History

The Gurudwara was established in 2011 by the local Sikh families. The Gurudwara is run by the collective support of the Sangat. There was a significant fire at Gurudwara on March 14, 2013 that burned down most of the building. With Waheguru's grace, no one was hurt. While the community is heavy hearted due to the loss, however, the spirits are high and we remain in Chardi Kala as per our Guru's teachings. The firefighters were able to put the blaze out but not before significant damage was done to the structure. They were able to save Guru Granth Sahib Ji and while there is water damage to the three Swaroops, they were not burned. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. An investigation is ongoing but there is no sign of foul play that we can see. It is possible that it is from some sort of electrical problem since it started near the heating and cooling units in the back. The building is definitely not usable but the insurance company has been called and the building is insured. There is a lot of work ahead of us. With Guru's grace and Sangat's participation, we have no doubt that we will rebuild and restart soon. With Waheguru's help, we will be able to worship at 704 Washburn Rd. again soon.

Unique Features
